WebDrive is more than just an FTP Client. By connecting to WebDAV,
FTP, or SFTP servers through a virtual drive, files are transferred
by simply saving them to a drive letter. There's no need to run a
separate FTP client interface. Unlike typical FTP clients, WebDrive
lets you open and edit server-based files without the additional
download step.
Security Features
WebDrive has built-in support for the industry standard SSL protocol.
When used in conjunction with secure WebDAV, FTP or SFTP servers,
WebDrive will open an encrypted tunnel between the client computer
and the remote server; giving you secure transmission of critical
data over the Internet. WebDrive can even be used as an alternative
to a corporate VPN. Install the WebDrive client, and an SSL enabled
server, and WebDrive can act as the VPN for your company, an
efficient alternative to an expensive VPN and non-secure FTP client
connections.
WebDrive Site Manager
Use the site manager to define the servers you wish to map to drive
letters. Enter the server URL and your username and password and
press connect to map the selected drive letter to your server. You
can map different directories on the same server to unique drive
letters. This provides easier access to frequently updated
directories. You can also map unique drive letters to different
server types - one drive to an SFTP server, one to a WebDAV server
and another to an FTP server. This is functionality not available in
typical FTP software.
Collaboration
WebDrive supports WebDAV, the Web-based Distributed Authoring and
Versioning protocol. WebDAV enables collaboration on a centrally
located set of files. WebDAV is also more firewall friendly than
other protocols. By mapping a drive letter to a WebDAV server,
WebDrive allows you to lock files, modify them, and then release the
locks so that others can view and edit. By using WebDAV locking
concepts, WebDrive ensures data integrity.
Because WebDrive can connect to FTP, SFTP and WebDAV servers, users
can store, access and collaborate on files in many locations - though
the familiar interface of a drive letter.
Internet-Enable any Application
Instantly Internet enable any application. Use WebDrive to manipulate
files on your server with your favorite applications. For example,
you can use
Microsoft Backup to create backups of your web site, by
simply selecting the drive letter to be backed up.
DOS/Legacy Support (Command Line)
Once WebDrive has mapped a drive to your server, you can access it
like a local drive. Use a DOS-prompt to use commands like copy,
xcopy, mkdir, dir, move, etc.
As the Internet grows, DOS based and other legacy applications are
quickly being left in the dust; primarily due to their inability to
access data over the Internet. WebDrive can breathe new life into
these applications by providing DOS based Internet file access. Still
using an application like WordPerfect for DOS? With WebDrive, map any
available network drive letter to an FTP, SFTP or WebDAV server over
your corporate Intranet or over the Internet, then use the
application to access those files through the mapped drive.
Advanced Features...
- SFTP Support - Use WebDrive to connect to your SFTP/SSH server for
fast, secure file access. SFTP is supported when running under
Windows NT/2K/XP/03. Windows 9x is not supported.
- Amazon S3 Support - Use WebDrive to connect to your Amazon Web
Services online storage account.

Microsoft FrontPage Support - Connect to any website running the
Microsoft FrontPage extensions.
- Firewall/Proxy server support - Login through a variety of proxy
servers and firewalls, including MS Proxy 2.0, SOCKS 4.3 and
SOCKS 5, and Raptor (gwpasswd).
- S/KEY Password Encryption - Use MD4 & MD5 password encryption for
supported FTP servers.
- Foreign Language Support - Support for Far East languages like
Japanese, and Chinese using DBCS.
- File Caching - WebDrive caches both file and directory listings for
quick access. You can control the amount of disk space used for the
cache, and whether to cache files, directory listings, or both.
- FTP resume interrupted download.
- Support for Unix file attributes through an Explorer shell
extension as well as a command line utility.
- Options to transfer files in ASCII/Binary mode based on file
extension.
Changes in 8.24
- Fixed Save As issue in excel/word when "cache temporary files" was
enabled and the user selected to create a new folder in the save as
dialog for excel/word and the folder was named with all numbers,
i.e. 2009 then Word was unable to save the file because WebDrive
treated the folder creation as a temporary file.
- Fixed issue in 8.23 for DAV and uploading large files using the
setting "Enable chunked upload for large files" which is on by
default. Many servers do not support chunked file upload and in
version 8.23 when this setting was enabled it uploaded all files
rather than just files larger than 1 GB. Version 8.24 resets to
the previous webdrive behavior of uploading in chunked mode for
files grater than 1 GB.
- Fixed hang issue that could freeze explorer and the system, seen
most often on Vista SP1 but could happen on other systems as well.
- Fixed IIS / NTLM authentication issue that resulted in errors
renaming or uploading files when using Auto DAV locking on
persistent connections.
- Fixed Offline synchronization issue when editing a word file
offline and then performing a synchronize operation that resulted
in a "Server modified copy" file being created when the file was
not actually modified on the server by another user.
- Fixed Offline issue where folders or files that were previously
marked offline could lose their status as "offline" files.
- Added support for French FTP servers that don't support the MLSD
command. Webdrive can now parse the unix date listing that
contains month names in french.
- Changed auto dav lock behavior to NOT take out a DAV lock when
an application is doing byte range locks if the file extension
is not in the user supplied extension list.
- Changed FTP symbolic link resolve logic to use the link name
instead of the path when determining if a link is for a file or
folder.
